DCMX

DC-Matrix falls into the cold work tool steel category as a matrix type steel. Only fine carbides are distributed in the matrix due to the optimum alloy design and production process. You can achieve a high hardness such as 62HRC through high-temperature tempering. This metal has good dimensional stability which results in high wear resistance after tempering. The metal also has a high toughness which prevents cracking and chipping. DCMX is used primarily for punches, dies, and working tools in cold pressing and cold forging. Specific applications include cold stamping dies for high-strength steels, insert blocks for composite stamping dies, and blanking punches and trimming edges.

Heat Treating

Forging: Forge to 1652°-2120°F.

Annealing: DCMX must be annealed to 1688°-1796°F. Cool slowly.

Quenching: Air cool to between 1830°-1922°F.

Tempering: Double temper DCMX. The low range for tempering is 302°-392°F and the high range is 896° – 1040°F. Then air cool.

Stabilize by holding the metal at a temperature of 752°F for longer than 1 hour.
